Before me was a vast graveyard, stretching as far as the mists allowed and caged in by the enormous buildings that formed the horizon. My eyes adjusted to the growing dark of twilight, and I soon realized that the mist was no mist at all. It was thousands upon thousands of individual figures, all carrying a pole lantern. They were all semi-transparent, and that's what made it seem like a mist was creeping though the graveyard.

They seemed to not notice me, they just floated lazily between the rows and rows of headstones, sometimes completely floating through one. They swirled across the damp ground in a seemingly random pattern, but I sensed that they were driven by some unseen force...

This cute 'lil guy is a Cryptcull, one of the many types of specters that haunt the graveyards and streets of the Cityscape. They're harmless, and will only grow agitated if you walk though one. They're not all that fast, either. One interesting fact about them is that there's no spell to bind them to the earth, so they cannot be created artificially. That, coupled with the fact that they cannot communicate, makes them a very enigmatic species. No one knows why they're here, or why they stay behind, since there's nothing keeping them here.

Their soul is stored in the lantern they carry, which could be on a pole, at the end of their tail, or any number of places. Individual Cryptculls carry their lanterns in different ways, which may show how they view their lives. All of their masks are different as well, but very subtly. Their mask is the only part of them that is completely corporeal as well.

Cryptculls don't tend to wander far from graveyards, though it is unknown if this is because their bodies are buried there.
